Oregon Firearms Academy - Top notch school!
Yesterday I spent the day at Oregon Firearms Academy, taking the "Basic Handgun Safety Course" so I can get my CCW. (Well, we'll see, anyway. I have mixed feelings about asking for permission to carry concealed.)
The experience was great, and all of the instructors were top notch. OFA is one of only six other shooting ranges in the United States to receive the National Association of Shooting Ranges (NASR) four star rating. I highly recommend them to any Oregon GIMers that might be interested in excellent firearms/survival instruction. At one point on the range, one of the instructors came up to me and said "Nice grouping, you've clearly been shooting for quite some time!" "Not much with handguns, mostly with rifles," I said. "It shows, good job!" was his reply. :D http://www.oregonfirearmsacademy.com/index.htm |
Re: Oregon Firearms Academy - Top notch school!
I had my CCW in Oregon about 12 years ago.
Always nice to get 'da man's' permission to protect yourself. Especially if you frequent 'bad areas' of town. After that, I went to gunsmithing school and NRA firearms certification course. |
Re: Oregon Firearms Academy - Top notch school!
Did you get your CCW here because you lived here, or just so you could carry should you be traveling here? As I understand it, Oregon doesn't honor CCW issued from any other states.
They also offered a class for Utah CCW. Utah honors CCW from the most states: 35; so I guess it's a pretty popular one to have. |

I lived over in a subdivision called Rockwood. Near Gresham.
I just took the 8 hour course, paid my money and got my license in about four weeks. I rode my Harley to all sorts of 'bad areas' in Oregon and was always armed. Also to a few bad areas in Washington (who actually USED to recognize the Oregon CCW valid in their state IF you were traveling). I've still got my 'Support your local Amigos' shirt. NO, I was not then nor am I now a member of the 1%er's. But I knew them and they knew me. We got along. I was a free lance photojournalist for Harley rags for quite a while. Sold the bike and my camera equipment about two years ago. Sure am glad I did. A buddy of mine has my bike. Sold my camera stuff to one of the local camera stores. Still write the occasional story for my local MV club, but not much else these days. |
